Massive zoom lens.
Excellent image stabilization.
Articulating LCD.

Only average viewing screen.

The Canon Sx40 has the excellent 35x optical zoom as its stand out feature, if a massive zoom is important to you then it is hard to look past this camera.

The SX40 has a slightly plasticky feel to it and the LCD screen is not the best in its class but overall this is an excellent camera.

The Canon PowerShot SX40 HS may be little more than the SX30 IS equipped with a new sensor, but this single change has a significant impact on the camera as a whole. The 720p video and paltry 1.3fps continuous shooting of the SX30 IS have now been upgraded to 1080p and up to 10.3fps .....

As an amateur tool the PowerShot SX40 HS cuts the mustard and is great fun. But we would only unconditionally recommend it if you can find a street price that shaves a decent chunk off the manufacturer's price.....
